About
Dr Cynthia Turner, Clinical Psychologist
Cynthia provides a warm and welcoming environment for those seeking psychological therapy. She holds a PhD and has substantial clinical experience and published research in obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, body-focused repetitive behaviours, tics and Tourette's, and anxiety disorders across the lifespan.
Her work draws on cognitive behavioural therapy, exposure and response prevention, habit reversal training, and CBIT — first-line, evidence-based treatments for the conditions she works with.
What we treat
Where the practice focuses
OCD
Intrusive thoughts and time-consuming rituals — in children, adolescents, and adults.
Learn moreAnxiety
Phobias, separation, social, generalised, and health anxiety — across the lifespan.
Learn moreTics & Tourette's
Motor and vocal tics in children, adolescents, and adults — including Tourette's.
Learn moreBDD
Distressing preoccupation with perceived appearance flaws — across the lifespan.
Learn moreBFRBs
Hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting, and lip or cheek biting.
Learn moreEvidence-based practice means using treatments that have been tested in good research and shown to help. For the work Dr Turner does, that mostly means cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD and BDD, and habit reversal / CBIT for tics and BFRBs.
A first appointment is usually 90 minutes; subsequent sessions are 50 minutes. The first session is about understanding what's been happening, what's been tried, and where you'd like to get to. Treatment is then planned collaboratively.
Telehealth is available for clients across Australia, including regional Queensland. For most adult presentations and many paediatric ones, telehealth is as effective as in-person care.
